Why It Took GRITYARD Two Years to Become an Official HYROX Training Club in Singapore

If you’ve been with us a while, you probably noticed our big news—GRITYARD is finally an official HYROX Training Club in Singapore. This isn’t something we rushed into. For two years, people kept asking, “So, when’s GRITYARD joining the HYROX club?” The hype was real, but we knew we had to do this on our terms.
Honestly, we weren’t interested in slapping the HYROX logo on our gym just because everyone else was doing it. We wanted to be sure it actually fit our training philosophy, our community, and most importantly, helped our athletes get results that last. We didn’t want a shortcut. We wanted a program that works in the real world.
So, here’s the real story—why we waited, what we figured out, and how our approach sets you up to crush the next HYROX race without wrecking your body.
We Didn’t Rush into HYROX—Here’s Why
When HYROX landed in Singapore about three years ago, people went all in. It exploded. But let’s be honest, compared to old-school sports like marathon running or strength competitions, HYROX is still the new kid on the block.
We don’t believe in overnight expertise. We wanted to get our hands dirty first. That meant building actual experience—racing, testing, learning, and collecting feedback. We needed to see if it really worked for us and our crew, not just follow a trend.
Our Master Trainer, Yao Xiang went all in —over two years, he took part in 11 HYROX races. Everything from Solo (Open and Pro Divisions) to Doubles to Relays. His background being in the aquatics, not running, it was a humbling wake-up call to see how demanding and different these events are. Every athlete faces different challenges. By testing different training plans ourselves—and tracking real performance—we designed something that doesn’t just work for a select few, but for anyone willing to put in the work.
The HYROX Trap: Too Much, Too Soon
There’s one mistake we kept seeing, over and over again. People see HYROX and think, “Alright, I need to start running way more, right now, and throw in max intensity everywhere.” They ramp up mileage and jump straight into high-intensity workouts. What happens? Injuries. Sore joints. Major burnout—sometimes before they even make it to race day.
Most people’s bodies just aren’t ready for that kind of pressure, especially on top of work and life. All the motivation in the world means nothing if you skip the structure. Without a plan, you don’t get faster—you get hurt.
Our Solution: The S.P.A.C.E. Method for HYROX Training
We built our HYROX program around our S.P.A.C.E. philosophy:
Strength—Developing the muscle to handle sled pulls, wall balls, lunges—the stuff that wears you down during races.
Power—Explosive movements to make you faster and more efficient.
Agility/Athleticism—Teaching your body to move well so your joints last.
Core—A strong midsection that supports everything you do, on the race course and outside the gym.
Endurance—Building engine and stamina that doesn’t trash your knees.
Our real aim? HYROX isn’t just a race. It’s a milestone in your bigger fitness journey. We want you to finish strong, sure, but we care more about helping you move well, live better, and keep making progress years from now.
